Bike Through Minneapolis This Weekend

Biking is a Minneapolis favorite, especially as the cooler weather sets in. This weekend’s Minneapolis Bike Tour takes you through the beautiful scenery of the Northeast part of the city. It begins and ends at Boom Island Park and it’s less about competitive racing and more about enjoying the ride.

If you can’t make it for this race, there are several biking trails throughout the metro area, all varying in length and popularity. Brown’s Creek is a six-mile trail east of St. Paul that follows a trout stream and descends to the St. Croix River. And for those feeling extra adventurous and who want a longer ride, try biking the 19 _ miles it takes to complete the trail between Cannon Falls and Red Wing. Cannon Valley is a scenic ride with a midpoint stop that’s perfect for a picnic and refuel before continuing on the trail.

It feels good to stretch our legs and to enjoy the beauty around us. Before long, the harsh winter chill will arrive, so why not take advantage of the crisp outdoor air while we can.

Weekend Happenings

Head to Grain Belt Brewery for the 17th Annual Autumn Brew Review. The outdoor festival celebrates the art of craft brewing and all ticket proceeds go toward the Minnesota Craft Brewers Guild. Over 140 breweries will be on hand to pass out unlimited samples of their finest to ticketed guests. Food vendors will be onsite to help hungry appetites, and non-alcoholic offerings will be available for designated drivers.

Entertainment will last through the day and include educational sessions, tours, and live music. Metro Transit will offer free rides and bicyclists are welcome to wheel down to the fun. Entry starts at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 16 so plan (and pace) accordingly. Expected breweries include favorites such as Deschutes Brewery, Loon Juice Hard Cider, Saint Paul’s Flat Earth, St. Croix Brewing, and a host of others.

If beer isn’t really your thing, then maybe wine is. Sovereign Estate Winery is celebrating its grape harvest with dinner and drinks at the vineyard. Guests are encouraged to dress in all white for the end-of-summer affair and raise a glass to fall. The Diner en Blanc buffet is a unique event where guests can listen to live music while dining al fresco in a classy setting.

Let’s continue to embrace this beautiful weather and find a place outdoors to spend time this weekend. Whether it’s biking, brewing, drinking, or a combination of the three, find what fuels you and have a safe, bountiful weekend.

It is not in the stars to hold our destiny but in ourselves.
